Public employees receive awards during Public Service Recognition Week

OLYMPIA — During Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW), May 2-8, Secretary of State Kim Wyman joined the Office of Financial Management (OFM) and others to recognize Washington employees who have gone above and beyond in public service.

This year, public employees were nominated for either the Extra Mile Award or the Excellence in Washington State Government Leadership Award. Out of the 400 nominees, 30 recipients were chosen and recognized during a virtual ceremony. They will also be listed on the Public Service Recognition Week webpage at sos.wa.gov/psrw.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join public employees statewide in celebrating their shared accomplishments,” said Secretary Wyman, whose office partners with OFM to organize PSRW activities in Washington. “This year’s Leadership and Extra Mile award recipients exemplify the best among an amazing workforce dedicated to service excellence, innovation, and outstanding leadership.”

“Public Service Recognition Week is always a special time for us to take time to reflect and celebrate the importance of public service. This event is particularly meaningful this year as we acknowledge the incredible work public employees have undertaken during the pandemic response,” said Franklin Plaistowe, Assistant Director for State Human Resources, Office of Financial Management.

PSRW is a national, annual initiative celebrated during the first full week in May, and recognizes public employees working in all levels of government.
