WA Secretary of State issues statement regarding attempts from foreign adversaries to interfere in the 2020 General Election

Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman issued the following statement after federal intelligence officials held a briefing announcing attempts from foreign actors to interfere in the upcoming Nov. 3 general election.

“Foreign adversaries are working around the clock to interfere in U.S. elections and undermine confidence in the electoral process. Despite the disinformation circulating from bad actors, know there has been no indication of compromise at the Office of the Secretary of State or with our elections system.

General Election ballots mailed to Washington voters this week

OLYMPIA – Registered voters in Washington state will soon receive their ballots for the General Election, Tuesday, Nov. 3. Ballots must be sent to registered voters no later than Friday, Oct. 16.

Voters have until 8 p.m. Nov. 3 to place their marked ballots in one of over 500 drop boxes statewide. Drop-box locations can be found at VoteWA.gov, Washington’s online voter portal.

The 2020 Student Mock Election is now open for all Washington K-12 students

OLYMPIA – The Office of the Secretary of State’s 2020 Student Mock Election is open from now until Nov. 3.

The Student Mock Election is a nonpartisan educational initiative that teaches K-12 students how elections work and how to become informed voters. Students read candidate statements and arguments for and against races, measures, and issues that may be relevant to their daily lives.

The Office of the Secretary of State encourages voters to start preparing for the Nov. 3 General Election

OLYMPIA — National Voter Education Week is Oct. 5-9, and the Office of the Secretary of State is encouraging people to start getting ready for the Nov. 3 General Election.

Even though ballots won’t be mailed until Oct. 16 at the latest, voters can start preparing for the election now. From listingall the critical dates and deadlines to learning about the issues, measures, and candidates, voters have access to a wealth of information on the Secretary of State’s elections web page.

Secretary of State files legal action to declare electronic signatures on initiative petitions unacceptable

OLYMPIA —Secretary of State Kim Wyman filed legal action yesterday asking Thurston County Superior Court to declare she is not required to accept electronic signatures on initiative petitions. The filing was made as a result of initiative sponsors asserting the Secretary of State is required to count electronic signatures when verifying and canvassing signatures on initiative petitions.

National Voter Registration Day: Secretary of State Kim Wyman encourages all eligible Washingtonians to join the voter rolls

OLYMPIA — National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Secretary of State Kim Wyman is encouraging all eligible Washingtonians to register to vote in time for the Nov. 3 General Election.

“As Americans our right to vote is sacred, and it is incumbent upon all of us as citizens to participate in our democracy and make our voices heard,” said Wyman, whose office oversees elections in Washington. “Each year National Voter Registration Day reminds us of our duty to recognize and celebrate every citizen’s role in shaping the future of our state, and our nation.”
