Washington State Library News
Rural public libraries around the state have put together digital collections of historic items and fascinating community heritage. Access is free and online. These collections were made possible by grants from Washington Rural Heritage, an initiative of the Washington State Library. The grants are funded by the Library Services and Technology Act through the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.

In 1841, a stubborn 64 year old Methodist preacher named Joseph Williams left his home in Ripley County, Indiana to travel to the Oregon Territory. His family and neighbors all advised against it, pointing to dangers, hostile Indians and wild beasts.

Anne Lowe, president of Endicott Community Club, recently presented Caroline Morasch, Endicott librarian, with a check for $5,856 from proceeds of the German dinner and silent auction last November in Endicott.
