For the first time ever, Seattle has more than 600,000 people calling the city home. According to the state's new 2009 population estimates released by the state's Office of Financial Management (OFM), the Emerald City's estimated population was 602,000 as of April 1 this year, up nearly 7 percent from 2000. In 1960, Seattle’s population was 557,087 before dropping to “only” 493,846 in 1980. Spokane remains the second most-populated city, with 205,500. The rest of this year’s Top 10 includes Tacoma (203,400), Vancouver (164,500), Bellevue (120,600), Everett (103,500), Spokane Valley (89,440), Federal Way (88,580), Kent (88,380) and Yakima (84,850). OFM said the state’s estimated population is now 6,668,200, which is 80,600 (or a little more than 1 percent) over last year’s figure. Go here to check out OFM’s population estimates.
