Check Out Washington

Check Out Washington is a collaboration between the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Washington State Library to allow individuals to “check out a state park” without paying the parking fee.

Participating libraries allow individuals to check out a back pack which contains a special library Discover Pass which allows free entrance into state parks and other state-owned land, a pair of binoculars, a pamphlet guide to Washington Trees, another pamphlet guide to Washington Birds together with a state map listing all the state park locations.

Participation involves:

The second year of the project will begin on April 1, 2020, and run through March 30, 2021.

In addition to the backpack, another key element of the project is feedback from customers in the form of completed evaluations for the Parks Commission and the State Library. Feedback should be provided using the online survey or print survey. The first year pilot libraries discovered that paper surveys included in the backpack at checkout produced the best results. Each library’s project manager should compile their individual library’s survey results at the end of October 2020.
