The Cashmere School District is set to recommend replacing longtime Vale (Elementary School )Librarian Barbara DeRubertis with two first-timers: Steffanie Haney and Wendy Crossland. Haney is a substitute teacher in the district and Crossland just finished her student-teaching. Neither of them has ever worked as a librarian before. The recommendations states the job will be on an interim basis for one year, after which a permanent position will be posted.

Volunteers at the Rainier Area Building Community are one step closer to turning the historic school house in Rainier into a true community center as the library space undergoes transformation. Timberland Regional Library (TRL) has positioned itself well fiscally for 2010 after instituting hiring freezes and reducing the use of substitutes and the hours of operation.

Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed visited Colville as part of a statewide tour of county election departments. Reed also toured the Colville Public Library, a member of the Libraries of Stevens County. Reed stated “Our libraries are more important than ever. They are a community hub of information and a wealth of knowledge.
