Library News Pasco and Mid-Columbia Libraries will begin contract negotiations next month now that the state attorney general says the city can get a la carte library services. If negotiations do not result in a compromise, Pasco would need time to create its own library and the city may want to see if it could extend the current contract.

Library News On November 24 Waterville Elementary School first graders were presented with their first library cards and a special lanyard on which to hold them safely. As part of the annual North Central Regional Library System sponsored program, librarian Sandy Bareither visited the first grade classroom and made a presentation encouraging the students to read instead of watching TV or playing video games.

Library News Many of the nearly 100 people in attendance at Monday night’s City Council meeting were there to fight against the city closing the Ocean Shores Library and Interpretive Center. Mayor Dean Bunkers proposal said that closing the Library and Interpretive Center would save another $400,000. Even so, Bunkers said that keeping those two open is a “high priority.” (The North Coast News [Ocean Shores], 11.25.09) A reciprocal borrowing agreement between Anacortes and Mount Vernon public libraries was approved by both cities last month and took effect yesterday.
