All branches of the Washington State Library are currently closed to the public. Questions received via email, chat, and phone will be answered between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Collection items are available through your local library using interlibrary loan. All collection materials currently checked out due July 15, and the blue book drop located near our back door is available for use. For more information, please visit our page regarding the closure.

We are available to answer questions via telephone, email, and chat from 8AM - 5PM Monday through Friday. Our lobby hours are 10AM - 4PM Monday through Friday; the Library’s Reading Room is open from 10AM - 4PM, Monday through Friday. Appointments are strongly encouraged. We are closed on weekends and state holidays. Email requests may be submitted any time.


Questions are answered in the order they are received. We do our best to respond within two business days. If you are looking for an obituary, more options are available for accessing obituaries in Washington newspapers.
