Filing an Initiative

As of December 19, 2018, at 5:00 p.m., the Attorney General’s Office will stop accepting 2018 initiatives to the 2019 legislature for ballot title preparation. Preparing ballot titles for initiatives submitted after this date would be a waste of public resources because the title would not become final until January 4, 2019, which is the last date for submitting signed petitions. Therefore, it will be impossible for a sponsor to gather sufficient signatures to submit the initiative petitions in time to meet the January 4, 2019 deadline. March 13, 2019 is the first day to file an initiative to the legislature in 2019.

January 5, 2019 is the first day to file an initiative to the people in 2019.

See the Initiative & Referenda Handbook for more information.
