Tournaments details

Mario Kart 8 rules

Nintendo Switches will be provided, along with the game and controllers. You may not use your own controller.

This will be a double elimination single player tournament. Each player will play against three other players on a 4-way split screen each round in a best of 1 race competition. 16 players maximum for this tournament play.

We will randomly select players for seeding about five minutes before 5:30pm (or sooner, if everyone is checked-in).

Each race takes around 3-4 minutes where you have a brief break to get a drink or take a bathroom break.

The top two placed out of the 4 players are considered the ‘winners’ of the round after the race is complete.

If you have placed bottom 2 in the round, then you move to the elimination side of the bracket OR you are eliminated, if you have already ‘lost’ a round previously.

Eventually the bottom bracket players will move to the top to play two players from the winners’ side of the bracket - this is called the ‘finals.’

Per normal Double Elimination rules in the finals, if one or two of the loser bracket players lose once again, they are eliminated. You must score in the top 2 without being in the loser bracket to keep playing in the finals. This could cause a second run of the finals aka ‘bracket reset’ until we get down to just two players.

Once down to the final 2 players, we play the grand finals. There will be one round of 4 races (cup selected randomly) and the player with the most points will win the tournament and prizes. If there is a tie here, we will reset and run one final race where winner takes all.

Game Set-up

Each set of races will be created by the host of the tournament. 20 sided dice or playing cards (whatever is available) will be used to determine player controller pick order (and subsequently where you are located on the tv).

Multiplayer (4p)

  • VS

  • 150cc

  •  No Teams

  • Normal Items

  • No COM (no bots will be playing in this tournament)

  • All Vehicles

  •  In Order

  • 1 race until grand final (4 in grand final)

Tracks will be determined by random wheel spin each round. This track will be used on every Switch for that one round and will re-roll a different track for subsequent rounds.

Player Absence, Timings or Disconnects

Players are expected to be ready to play with a five minute warning given by the host. We must keep the tournament moving in order to finish on time.

Tournament hosts will disqualify a player if too much time has been taken between rounds.

If there is an issue with power or related to the hardware itself, the tournament director has the right to determine the resolution.

If there is a player issue, i.e. the player stops playing for some reason (quits or gets removed from the tournament) - that character will continue with auto driving turned on.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Rules

Game System: Nintendo Switch

Entry Cap: 16

Controllers: Joy Cons

Game Mode: 4 Stock, Battlefield (random with no hazards, items, or Final Smash), 5:00 time limit

Number of Players per Round: 1 v 1

Conduct: This is a friendly tournament; participants are expected to be respectful and cordial.

Technical Issues: If a match is interrupted due to technical issues, the game will be restarted unless a player was ahead.

Sudden Death: In the event where the clock runs out and a sudden death is initiated, the player which had the highest number of stocks is the winner of the game.

If both players had the same amount of stocks, the player with the lower percentage of damage is the winner of the game.

If both players had the same amount of stocks and the same damage percentage, players should follow the scenario: In the event where both players knock-out at the same time and initiate a sudden death, players will play a tiebreaker game on the same stage with the same characters with the following modifications: (Stock: 1 and Time: 3 minutes)
