The Secretary of State’s Corporations and Charities Division will be open and doing business as usual, even if there is a state government shutdown. Annual report filings provided by the Department of Revenue’s Business Licensing Service (BLS) will not be available as of June 27th. Reminder: the Secretary of State does not have the authority to answer tax and BLS questions on the Department of Revenue’s behalf.

Expedited Service

For those who need their documents in a hurry, the Corporations Division offers expedited service for online, in-person, and paper mail transactions. The fee for expedited paper and in-person service is $50 per entity. All online submissions are expedited at $20 per entity (in addition to regular fees).Online and paper expedited filings are generally processed in 2 business days. For fastest service, in-person expedited service requests received before 3:30 p.m. will be processed the same day, usually within one hour.

Domestic Corporation: A business that has incorporated under the laws of the State of Washington.

Foreign Corporation: A business that has incorporated outside of Washington State.

Filing Nonprofit Articles of Incorporation?

If your nonprofit organization is, or plans to fundraise from the public, it may also be required to register with the Charities Program of the Secretary of State.  Registration with the Charities Program is separate from and in addition to filings required under corporate law; Please visit the Charities Program Website to review the registration requirements and registration forms.
