Storefront Solicitors- Where does your donation go?

During the holiday season, and throughout the year, you may encounter individuals collecting donations outside store fronts or other public places. While many of these efforts are well intended, it is important to ask: Where is my donation going?  

That’s where Assured Giving comes in. The Assured Giving program empowers you to make informed decisions about charitable donations. Use the Corporations & Charities Filing System – Charitable Organization Search to verify whether an organization is properly registered with the Secretary of State.

Bottom line: Give generously but give with assurance. If you care about how your donation is used, take a moment to verify the organization. Ask the charity for the organization's contact information, do your research independently and make an informed choice.
