Secretary of State Kim Wyman will convene the Presidential Primary Committee to consider moving the date for the 2016 Washington Presidential Primary from the default date of May 24 to earlier in the election cycle.
Secretary Wyman is proposing March 8 as the 2016 date, one week after “Super Tuesday,” the earliest that most states may hold primaries or caucuses. The Legislature recently approved funding for the 2016 Presidential Primary, but did not pass Secretary Wyman’s bill to make the second Tuesday in March the new default date.
The committee includes the chair and vice chair of the two major political parties or their designees, leaders of the four legislative caucuses or their designees, and the Secretary. Under the state Presidential Primary law that authorized the date-setting committee, it takes six votes to move the date.
Media and the general public are invited to attend. The meeting will be live-streamed by TVW and broadcast and available online later.
Parking at the hotel costs $14. Airport shuttle is available.
