Which Type of Appointment Should I Schedule

Research consultation — A one-on-one in-person consultation with a librarian who has subject expertise in the areas of: federal, state, or local government; genealogy; Pacific Northwest history. The librarian can recommend research strategies, particular library collections of interest, and provide referrals to outside agencies that can help. Collection access is automatically included with each research appointment.

Access the library’s collection — Staff will provide physical access to the library’s reading room in order for you to browse the Northwest collection or use newspapers on microfilm. Staff can also provide paging of items from Rare, Historic Research, State, Federal, print Newspaper, and Map collections located on secure floors of the library. These appointments are best for individuals who are experienced State Library users and require little assistance in using available collections.

Quiet research space and Wi-Fi — Staff will provide access to the Reading Room and quiet workspaces for researchers who are self-sufficient, have their own laptop or tablet, and require no access library collections. These appointments will be available dependent on library staff availability.

If you are traveling long distance to use the Reading Room, or have other special needs, please contact us at Ask a Librarian to make arrangements outside of normal Reading Room hours.
