Jennifer Belcher

FIRST COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC LANDS 1993-2001

Belcher worked as an aide to Washington Governors Daniel J. Evans and Dixy Lee Ray from 1973 to 1979.
As a lawmaker, Belcher fought for government-sponsored daycare and comparable pay for state-employed women.
When Belcher declared her candidacy for Commissioner of Public Lands, no woman had ever run for the post.
The former Lands Commissioner considers the Habitat Conservation Plan one of the great accomplishments of her tenure.
