This oral history with Bob Hart is part of a series spotlighting World War II veterans; 2015 will mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.

Bob Hart, a Tacoma native, volunteered for the paratroopers in 1943 reasoning he wouldn’t have to do much walking. On his first combat jump, he landed hard and ended up walking 50 miles through the South of France on a broken foot. Then, in the legendary Battle of the Bulge, Hart’s outfit helped thwart Hitler’s last-ditch bid to stop the Allied advance.
