1. Describe the database product(s).  Include information on subject scope, percentage of full-text, dates of coverage, target audience (including age ranges), and how often the contents are updated.

For colleges and universities, all CIS Universe Web Services are available for unlimited student and faculty use. For public libraries, the service allows unlimited use within the library building.

CIS Congressional Universe

No other database, Web-based or otherwise, covers congressional information as comprehensively as the CIS Congressional Universe service. The reliable indexing and abstracting of the CIS/Index to Publications of the U.S. Congress from 1970 forward sets CIS Congressional Universe apart from other services. But the service is far more than the CIS/Index on the web. It provides a seamless link to the full range of legislative and public policy full-text resources, including:

Update Schedule: Indexing and abstracting updated monthly. For a full update schedule, please visit our web page at http://www.cispubs.com.

Target Audience: CIS Congressional Universe's ease of use and direct links to the full texts of documents let even inexperienced researchers find their way easily to the material they need.

CIS Statutes at Large

CIS Statistical Universe

CIS Statistical Universe provides the most comprehensive and user-friendly access to statistical data on the Web today.

Update Schedule: Links to government Web sites are validated daily, so there are no dead ends. Indexing and abstracting updated monthly.

PowerTables: Effective immediately: CIS/LEXIS-NEXIS has completed a dramatic redesign of its Statistical Universe database. A completely new module called PowerTables has been added to the database, and is now required for all subscriptions to Statistical Universe.

The PowerTables Base Edition offers users the ability to find statistical data without any prior knowledge of CIS products. Users will be able to search directly for a table based on subject terms, coverage date, and other criteria. Each table in PowerTables is accompanied by a link to the CIS abstract describing the document in which the table appears and a PDF file of the complete document. The PowerTables Base Edition will contain over 25,000 tables with source materials from federal, state, and international publications. Additional tables will be added throughout the year, with 25,000 new tables added annually.

Coming in spring 2001, an optional Research Table Set of 125,000 indexed tables, with links to GIFs of tables, and links to full-text PDFs of 125K tables will also be available, dependent on the A&I subscriptions to ASI, SRI, and IIS.

ASI, SRI and IIS Abstract and Index Modules In the redesigned product, the full-text documents that used to be available as optional modules have now been incorporated into the Federal, State/Private, and International Abstract and Index modules. Links to all abstract & index records of purchased modules. ASI abstract/index data for more than 5,000 federal statistical publications per year from 1973 to the present; SRI abstracts and indexes from 1980 to the present. SRI covers more than 1,000 issuing sources from trade, professional, and other nonprofit associations and institutes; business organizations; commercial publishers; independent research organizations; state government agencies; and universities and affiliated research centers. IIS abstracts and indexes from 1983 to the present. IIS is the master guide and index to English language statistical publications of 100 major international intergovernmental organizations.
