(Note from the Washington State Library:  In order to participate in the Fall 2000 Washington State Databases Trial, each vendor was asked to address questions the Statewide Database Licensing Committee felt were most critical in order for library staff to evaluate products and vendors.  Please contact the vendor's representative, listed below, for additional information on this product.)


1. Describe the database product(s). If you want us to link to more than one product, provide a unique description for each product.  Include information on subject scope, percentage of full-text, dates of coverage, target audience (including age ranges), and how often the contents are updated. 

ITKnowledge

ITKnowledge is an online reference and learning tool that contains the full-text of thousands of IT and computer science books from leading publishers including Macgraw Hill, Wiley and Sons, Coriolis, Sybex and dozens more.

2. What are the hardware and software requirements for using all the features of the product(s)?

ITKnowledge can be accessed with any standard Internet browser software.

3. Is remote access included for the subscription price? If there are additional charges or requirements in order to offer remote access, please describe. What methods of remote access are supported?

Remote access is available to college and university libraries only.

4. Please discuss any methods or assistance you offer regarding remote access patron verification and authentication.

Authentication methods include IP address verification and user name and password.

5. What end user delivery options, such as printing, e-mailing or faxing results, are available beyond just viewing results on the computer monitor? 

Bookmarking of pages and referencing specific URLs in the context of other documents are permitted.

6. What customer training is provided, and at what cost? Please include "freebies" such as Web-based tutorials, end-user documentation tents, cheat-sheets, etc.

Sales representatives from Earthweb are available for demonstrations. .The site also offers on online tour and usage tip section. Overall, the site is intuitively navigable.

7. What customer and technical support is provided, including hours of operation? In your reply, please include the phone numbers and e-mail addresses for your support services.

8. Please describe the statistics you provide, and discuss whether your statistical reporting complies in part or in whole with the guidelines developed by the International Coalition of Library Consortia which may be found at http://www.library.yale.edu/consortia/webstats.html template for fall 2000 databases

EarthWeb will make reasonable efforts to meet the statistical reporting needs of both Subscribers and Regional Networks as it pertains to usage of ITKnowledge-Academic. EarthWeb is currently in the process of upgrading its external reporting capabilities, and will work with Subscribers and the Regional Networks to provide easy access to timely key usage data, including (but not limited to) the following:

Unique Users over time or within a particular time period Visits over time or within a particular time period Pageviews over time or within a particular time period Usage of individual books and publications

9. Describe your pricing structure or formula for the product. If there are additional costs for retrieving full text, describe the pricing for this service.

Special introductory pricing of $.28 per FTE for institutions who commit to a trial and/or purchase by the Oct. 31 deadline. (If the trial begins by October 31, the library may extend the deadline through November 30 to complete the trial and commit to purchase.) If purchased by this rate, this new price will be guaranteed for those institutions through June 2002. The formulae used by Earthweb regarding fees to the network, discounts, and commissions is confidential information under the terms and conditions of this agreement. Nothing in this clause shall limit the ability of the regional network to disseminate to subscribers the weighting factors and the subscriber's price for the product.

Weighting Factors

CATEGORY WEIGHT 4-yr Academic Institutions 100% of FTE (full-time equivalent) 2-yr Academic & specialized institutions, and tribal colleges and universities 75% of FTE (full-time equivalent)

Middle/High Schools, Grades 6-12 15% of the number of students enrolled in Grades 9-12

Public & State Libraries 4% for total population served of <1 million 3% for total population served of 1-2 million 2% for total population served of 2 million +

For those who purchase after Oct. 31, the pricing will depend on the number of weighted FTE aggregated by that date and the price will NOT be guaranteed for FY 2001-2002:

Aggregation:

Fewer than 2 million FTE: $.46/ fte 2 million to 3 million: $.42/ fte 3 million and above: $.36/ fte

10. If a library subscribes to any of your products as a result of this trial, will their future subscription rates continue to reflect any savings or discount they may receive today?

11. What is the minimum participation level (however you care to define it) that would be needed to allow participating libraries to receive a discount? What is the minimum discount for a group buy? How will you would treat existing library customers with regard to a group buy?
