(Note from the Washington State Library:  In order to participate in the Fall 2000 Washington State Databases Trial, each vendor was asked to address questions the Statewide Database Licensing Committee felt were most critical in order for library staff to evaluate products and vendors.  Please contact the vendor's representative, listed below, for additional information on this product.)

1. Describe the database products.  If you want us to link to more than one product, provide a unique description for each product. Be sure we know what information belongs with each product.  Include information on subject scope, percentage of full text, dates of coverage, target audience (including age ranges), and how often the contents are updated.

ABC-CLIO has developed three on line products for students and public library patrons.  Each product answers specific curriculum needs for content and aligns with national curriculum standards and 70% of textbooks used in schools today.

On all three-web sites, users will find a dynamic collection of resources, tools and reference resources.  Sites are updated daily. Its more than just an aggregation of sources- its an essential teaching and project research component that integrates easily and creatively across.

9. Describe your pricing structure or formula for the product.  If there are additional costs for retrieving full text, describe the pricing for this service. (Note: This question means we want to know what your list prices are and how you calculate your prices:

Pricing for the ABC CLIO products is based upon the aggregate total of licensees. The pricing breakdown is as follows:

Geography: World

              List Price:  $499.00

6 total sites   $399.00 (Basic WSD price)
      50 total sites   $350.00
      100 total sites   $299.00

  American Government

             List Price: $499.00

6 total sites   $399.00 (Basic WSD price)
     50 total sites   $350.00
     100 total sites   $299.00

A site is defined as school or public library branch.

Upon completion of the database trials, ABC CLIO will notify interested parties as to the final pricing structure.  For budgeting purposes, the $399.00 figure, or the Basic WSD (Washington State Database) price would be an appropriate estimate.  If additional discounts are applied, the customer will have the option of applying the discount towards renewal.  Notifications of the final pricing structure will go out by January 1,2001.  Final purchase orders must note Washington State Database price and must be received by February 15, 2001.

10. If a library subscribes to any of your products as a result of this trial, will their future subscription rates continue to reflect any savings or discount they may receive today?

ABC CLIO is in the process of analyzing renewal pricing.  As a new entrant in the online database product line, we will make every effort to provide discount rates to renewal customers, however those decisions will be formulated in the next 6 9 months.

11.  What is the minimum participation level (however you care to define it) that would be needed to allow participating libraries to receive a discount?  What is the minimum discount for a group buy?  How will you treat existing library customers with regard to a group buy?

The minimum participation level for discounts is 6 sites with a discount of $100 off list school and library price.

12. Please indicate whether libraries from Oregon, Idaho, or Alaska and/or Hawaii are eligible to participate in the group buying process.  Again, the fiscal and contracting relationship will be between each vendor and library.  The Washington State Library will help determine if the criteria for a group discount has been met.

Yes, libraries from the region may participate.

13.  Please provide the name and contact information for libraries to make further inquiries.
