(Note from the Washington State Library:  In order to participate in the Spring 2000 Washington State Databases Trial, each vendor was asked to address questions the Statewide Database Licensing Committee felt were most critical in order for library staff to evaluate products and vendors.  Please contact the vendor's representative, listed below, for additional information on this product.)

1. Describe the database product and unique aspects of your interface. Include information on subject scope, percentage of full-text, dates of coverage, target audience (including age ranges), and how often the contents are updated.

The CINAHL database is the authoritative source of information for the professional literature of nursing, allied health, biomedicine, and healthcare. For nearly forty years the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature� print index has indexed English-language and selected foreign-language journals covering nursing and other specialized health care areas.

SilverLinker enables a library to link from our bibliographic databases to full image articles at the publisher site. We partner with the following publishers (and publishing aggregators) for Full Text access:

2. What are the hardware and software requirements for using all the features of the product?

The requirement for internet browser capability is Internet Explorer 4 or better and Netscape 4 or better or the equivalent to search WebSPIRS 4.0

WebSPIRS 3.1 is and alternative for older machines and browsers

3. Is remote access included for the subscription price?  If there are additional charges or requirements in order to offer remote access, please describe.   What methods of remote access are supported?

For the Washington State Library there will be no charge for remote access. Remote users can log on to the library network and/or use a username and password directly to the SilverPlatter site.

4. Please discuss any methods or assistance you offer regarding remote access patron verification and authentication.

We can IP filter access from a proxy server and users logging in to the library network through a proxy will be recognized under the IP range that you give SilverPlatter.

If you do not have a proxy at your site, remote users can use a direct URL to SilverPlatter and login with a username and password.

5. What end user delivery options, such as printing, emailing or faxing results, are available beyond just viewing results on the computer monitor?

Printing, downloading and e-mailing all of the above.

6. What customer training is provided, and at what cost?

We have quick reference printed material, user manuals, on-line user manuals for downloading and an online tutorial at: http://www.silverplatter.com/tutor.

7. What customer and technical support is provided, including hours of operation.

8. Describe the statistics you provide, and discuss whether your statistical reporting complies with guidelines developed by the International Coalition of Library Consortia which may be found at www.library.yale.edu/consortia/webstats.html .

We provide statistics that are e-mailed on a monthly basis for usage.

The usage statistics include the database used, time, # of logins and # of records retrieved

9A.  Describe your pricing structure for individual libraries.

For the most part, SilverPlatter pricing is based on simultaneous usage of the product. Another factor is a site with the site including the entire campus, all buildings and remote access. Some databases use a model that is site and FTE combined for consortia.

9B.  Describe your pricing structure for a group purchase.  Please explain the basis for your pricing for a group purchase. What conditions must be in place for a discount to occur?

2 sites would be enough to receive a discount. As more sites add on to the group, the discount will increase for each site.

10.  Please clarify how you would treat existing library customers with regard to a group purchase.

For the group buy an existing customer will be given a credit for their unused portion of the subscription.

11.  Please indicate whether libraries from Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and/or Hawaii would be eligible to participate in the group buying process.

Any site from any state can add on to the group purchase.
