Common Core Tools for Teachers I: Introduction to Primary Resources for Classroom Research Projects That Support Common Core Standards

Free workshop for educators, including classroom teachers, librarians and curriculum administrators. 3 CLOCK HOURS available FREE of CHARGE. Learn about primary sources from the Washington State Archives that can be used for classroom projects that support the research and analysis elements of the Common Core State Language Arts Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies, and enrich students' learning experiences. Handouts will include a CD containing primary sources that support 18 topics in U.S. and Washington State History, transcripts from 293 oral history interviews with African Americans, Filipino Americans, as well as farmers, fishers, miners, loggers, ranchers and teachers in Washington State who were born between 1880 and 1920, the History Day Teachers Manual and a guide for meeting Common Core Standards through National History Day. The workshop will also address primary and secondary source research skills, National History Day as a working model for developing student research projects to meet Common Core Standards for research and analysis, and introduce other U.S. and Washington State History research sources that are available at the Washington State Archives.
