2021 Public Service Recognition Week Celebration Ideas! 

Theme Day: Virtual Years of State Service Day

Show your colors! Wear the following colors that correspond with how long you’ve been serving the state of Washington at your agencies virtual event.

0-2 years: Wear Green

  • 3-5 years: Wear Blue
  • 6-10 years: Wear Purple
  • 11-15 years: Wear Red
  • 16+ years: Wear Orange

If you don’t have a shirt in the color of your year, wear a white shirt and hold up a paper or object that displays your color.

Create photos of you, your teammates and other agency team members in your agency’s intranet site daily during PSRW 2021. On your mark, get set, strike a pose!

  • Monday, May 3: Sunlit Inspiration – Show us your home office or workspace. Tell us why it inspires you (for example, the view from your window, decor, etc.). Don’t include images with personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Tuesday, May 4: Cooking time - Share your favorite recipe
  • Wednesday, May 6: Celebrate What’s Right in the World – Share a picture of something that gives you hope, makes you feel proud, and inspires you to do the work you do every day.
  • Thursday, May5: Everyone Needs a Helper – Share a photo of your work buddy… furry friend’s welcome!
  • Friday, May 6: #1 Fan – Show Your Team Spirit! – Share a photo of you sporting your favorite team memorabilia.

Hold a virtual appreciation breakfast, picnic, or ice cream social. Consider co-hosting with your local Combined Fund Drive Campaign, which will help boost attendance, promote CFD and honor the generosity of your agency employees.

Have your agency leaders blog or tweet about PSRW and the importance of public service.

Create an online “thank you” card and invite employees and the public to write what public service means to them.

Include the PSRW logo on your agency’s website and use it in agency communications throughout the week.

Send each employee a certificate of gratitude

Use your agency or employee print and electronic newsletters to publicize PSRW

Have your fellow workers share a Zoom/Teams background that shows their Public service pride. 

Weekly staff meetings that will incorporate spirit week themes. Each of the spirit meetings should have staff voting on the best costume/backgrounds. At the end of the week have an awards ceremony.

Leadership sends emails expressing their appreciation to the employees

Hold virtual meetings where representatives from different divisions and programs present what they do for the agency.

Virtual bulletin board where employees can give Kudos to one another

On intranet, we gather photos to share, and celebrate milestones and retirements on recognition pages.

Special recognition from leadership and to provide games and time for us all to have fun and connect with one another!
