King County Independent Task Force on Elections releases Report

General Information
Issued: July 26, 2005

My highest priority as Secretary of State is to restore confidence in the voting process. The comprehensive report released today by the King County Independent Task Force on Elections is a strong start. Its findings are consistent with recommendations of the Office of Secretary of State. I urge the King County Executive to take this report to heart.

I completely support the need for professional assistance to turn around office culture. For years I have called for an earlier Primary to give election administrators statewide adequate time to do their jobs.

The problems at King County have developed over time and will take time to solve. My office is prepared to help and will review each recommendation thoroughly and thoughtfully.

Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed
