Charity/nonprofit symposium Sept. 6 in Walla Walla
Issued: August 06, 2013
OLYMPIA...The Secretary of State's Corporations & Charities Division is sponsoring a charity and nonprofit educational symposium in Walla Walla on Sept. 6.
The event, co-sponsored by the NonProfit Learning Center/Sherwood Trust and Walla Walla Community College, will be held at Walla Walla Community College's Conference Center 185 (500 Tausick Way) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with lunch provided.
Attendees will learn about the legal obligations and fiduciary duties of a nonprofit board, maintaining nonprofit status, registration and renewal requirements, Washington state tax requirements, and when a charity or nonprofit needs a special occasion license.
"This symposium in Walla Walla will be a great way for people to learn and understand how to start and operate a nonprofit or charity," said Teresa Glidden, charity and nonprofit education coordinator for the Corporations and Charities Division.
"We want to be sure that every charity and nonprofit organization, regardless of its size, has access to the knowledge it needs in order to be successful and comply with state registration and reporting requirements," Glidden said. "We also want board members to be aware of their fiduciary duties to the organizations they are serving."
There is a $10 per-person charge to help defray the costs of the facility and catering. Registrants can pay online when they register by credit or debit card. Registration is limited and available online here.
