Charity/nonprofit symposium Nov. 8 in Everett

OLYMPIA...The Secretary of State’s Corporations & Charities Division is sponsoring a charity and nonprofit educational symposium in Everett on Nov. 8.
The event will be held at Comcast Arena’s Edward D. Hansen Conference Center (2000 Hewitt Ave.) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with lunch provided.
Attendees will learn about the legal obligations and fiduciary duties of a nonprofit board, maintaining nonprofit status, registration and renewal requirements, Washington state tax requirements, and when a charity or nonprofit needs a special occasion license.
"This symposium will be a great way for people to learn and understand how to start and operate a nonprofit or charity," said Teresa Glidden, charity and nonprofit education coordinator for the Corporations and Charities Division.
"We want to be sure that every charity and nonprofit organization, regardless of its size, has access to the knowledge it needs in order to be successful and comply with state registration and reporting requirements," Glidden added. "We also want board members to be aware of their fiduciary duties to the organizations they are serving."
