Operative Personnel Certification - Background Checks
To be certified as digital signature operative personnel, an applicant must submit the results of two background checks along with their application. One background check must be performed by the Washington State Patrol, and the other by a private sector background check provider.
The State Patrol background check is performed by the Criminal History and Identification section of the Washington State Patrol. The State Patrol background check must be performed using the applicant’s fingerprints. More information about the background check can be found at www.wsp.wa.gov/crime/crimhist.htm.
The private sector background check should be conducted on the applicant’s behalf by a security officer of private investigator. The investigator will check the applicant’s criminal history over the past seven years, and provide a signed statement to the electronic authentication program regarding the results of their search.
An application will be denied if it is shown that the applicant was convicted of any felony within seven years prior to the application being made. An application will also be denied if it is shown that the applicant was convicted of a crime involving fraud, false statement or deception at any time in the past.
The results of both of these background checks should be attached to the Application for Certification as Digital Signature Operative Personnel. Please note that originals are required. Sending photocopies may cause the application to be rejected.
